Participants must follow the moderator’s instructions throughout the official session.
Scramble & Official Starting Position
The official competition scramble is provided through the JCA in-built competition timer at the scheduled competition time.
Participants must follow the scramble exactly. The official competition scramble must not be:
- Shared
- Screenshot
- Photographed
- Recorded
- Forwarded
- Published
- Distributed outside the prescribed competition process
JCA scramble videos available for learning are for understanding the scrambling procedure only and are not the actual competition scramble.
Any incorrect, missing, added or changed scramble may result in the attempt being recorded as DNF or declared invalid.
Official Timing & Attempt Procedure
The official JCA in-built competition timer is used for official attempts.
At each stage, each registered cube event is completed separately according to the prescribed number of official attempts before moving to the next event.
Ten-Minute Maximum
Each official attempt has a 10-minute maximum competition limit.
The JCA official timer may continue running beyond 10 minutes, but any attempt that reaches or exceeds 10:00 is recorded as DNF.
The timer itself does not automatically stop at 10 minutes.
Practice Timer & Practice Attempts
The practice timer is provided for preparation and familiarisation.
Practice attempts:
- Are not official competition results.
- Do not affect qualification.
- Do not affect official rankings.
- Are not treated as official competition attempts.
Participants are encouraged to practise using the same device, keyboard and setup required for the official competition.
The official competition process begins only when the official attempt starts.
Video Resources — Learn Before You Compete
Participants and parents/guardians should review the official instructional videos before participating.
These videos explain relevant procedures such as:
- Competition setup
- Attempt procedure
- Recording the official attempt
- Uploading the video
- Submitting the video link
- Online championship flow
Some existing JCA videos may use titles such as Challenge or Competition. Participants should follow the procedure applicable to the India School Cubing Championship format.
Where there is any difference, the official championship instructions and regulations take precedence.
Puzzle Standards & Orientation
Participants must use the permitted physical puzzle for the registered cube event. Bluetooth or electronically connected cubes are not permitted.
Standard Cubes
White on Top + Green in Front
Pyraminx
Yellow on Bottom + Green in Front
The puzzle must be in suitable working condition before the official attempt. A puzzle cannot be replaced during an official attempt.
Inspection & Starting the Attempt
A 15-second inspection is provided before the official timing begins. During inspection, participants may:
- Pick up and examine the scrambled puzzle.
- Identify their solution approach.
- Prepare mentally for the solve.
Participants must not make any solving move during inspection.
The same official timer and 15-second inspection procedure apply across the competition stages. The difference between stages is the method of verification and supervision.
Zonal Qualifier is participant-led with video verification. Zonal Finals and National Finale are live moderator-supervised.
Solved, Misaligned & Unsolved Puzzles
The final condition of the puzzle determines whether an official solve is considered valid.
Solved Puzzle
A puzzle is solved when all pieces are correctly arranged. The timer should be stopped only after the puzzle is solved.
Minor Misalignment
A misalignment of less than 45° is considered solved.
The 45° measurement refers to the alignment of the puzzle layer/face and not the angle at which the puzzle is being held or viewed.
Unsolved Puzzle
If the puzzle is one or more moves away from being solved, the attempt is recorded as DNF.
Timer Stopped Before Solve
If the timer is stopped before the puzzle is solved, the attempt is recorded as DNF, subject to applicable verification.
Final Verification
The final puzzle condition may be verified through the official timer, submitted video, moderator observation or other applicable evidence.
DNF — Did Not Finish
DNF (Did Not Finish) means that an official attempt does not receive a valid competition time.
An attempt may be recorded as DNF when the participant does not complete the solve according to the competition rules.
When an Attempt is DNF
An official attempt is recorded as DNF in situations including:
-
-
- The puzzle is one or more moves away from being solved when the timer is stopped.
- The participant stops the timer before completing the solve.
-
The attempt reaches or exceeds the 10-minute maximum competition limit.
-
-
- The official scramble is not followed correctly.
- A required competition rule is not followed and the attempt is therefore determined invalid.
- Required verification evidence is not submitted or does not meet the applicable verification requirements.
-
Cube Replacement & Technical Issues
-
- Cube Replacement
A participant must use the registered puzzle for the official attempt. The puzzle cannot be replaced during an official attempt.
Participants should ensure that their puzzle is in suitable working condition before beginning the official attempt.
Technical Issues

Any technical issue should be addressed before the official attempt begins wherever possible.
Re-attempt (RA)

-
-
- An RA is provided only when considered appropriate by the moderator/competition team.
- An RA is not an automatic right for every technical issue.
- The decision to provide an RA rests with the moderator/competition team.

-
-
- Qualification is based on the results of the Zonal Finals.
- The Zonal Finals result is not carried forward as the National Finale result.
- The National Finale is a fresh official competition.
-
The qualification process is separate from the participant’s position in the wider JCA Global, Yearly or Regional Ranking.
Qualification & Ranking Are Separate
A participant’s leaderboard/ranking position and their qualification status are separate aspects of the championship.
The leaderboard records and ranks the participant’s official competition performance using the applicable scoring method, including the applicable average time where required.
Qualification determines progression to the next stage according to the specific championship qualification rules.
Therefore, a leaderboard position and qualification status are not the same thing.
JCA Global Ranking
Every participant in the India School Cubing Championship is associated with a JCA Global Ranking Profile ID.
The JCA Global Ranking system maintains a participant’s official competition record across eligible competitions.
JCA Global Ranking Profile — Participant Competition Record
The JCA Global Ranking Profile is the participant’s individual record in the competition database.
The profile is maintained under the participant’s name and records their eligible official competition performances across different competitions and cube events.
The profile also showcases the participant’s personal best score to date for each cube event, based on eligible official performances recorded in the system.
Ranking & Performance Tracking
The applicable performance, including the average score/time where required, is ranked through the ranking system using relevant parameters such as:
-
-
- Global Ranking
- Yearly Ranking
- Regional Ranking
-
Ranking is maintained according to the applicable age category and cube event, creating a structured basis for tracking a participant’s performance against the relevant competitive group.
This enables a child to see their official scores, personal best performance, ranking position and progression across competitions and stages.
Recording of Championship Performances
Each verified official performance from the India School Cubing Championship is recorded against the participant’s JCA Global Ranking Profile.
Where a participant progresses through multiple stages:
Zonal Qualifier → Zonal Finals → National Finale
each stage result is recorded separately.
The result from one stage is not carried forward as the result of another stage.
Separate from Championship Qualification
JCA ranking and India School Cubing Championship qualification are separate systems.
A participant’s position in the Global, Yearly or Regional Ranking does not by itself determine qualification to the Zonal Finals or National Finale.
Qualification is determined according to the specific championship qualification rules described in Section 19.
Official Performance Record
As participants take part in eligible competitions, their verified official performances continue to be recorded under the same profile.
This creates a structured official performance record under the participant’s name, organized by age category and cube event, with the applicable Global, Yearly and Regional ranking views.
The profile allows participants to follow their performance journey, track their development and see how each new official competition result contributes to their continuing record.
PART D — RECOGNITION
